Chairman Yakubu Garba Tela Leads Fight Against Diabetes in Dambam LGA
In a groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman Yakubu Garba Tela launched the Bauchi State Chapter of World Diabetes Day in Dambam Local Government Area (LGA) on November 16, 2024.
This momentous occasion marked a significant milestone in the fight against diabetes, aiming to raise awareness and provide support to individuals living with the condition.
The event, held at the Musa Suleiman Town Hall Complex, was a resounding success, with officials from Dambam LGA being sworn in by Barrister Idiriss Mohammed.
The highlight of the day was the distribution of free diabetes testing and medication to those in need. Chairman Yakubu Garba Tela demonstrated his commitment to the cause by purchasing drugs and food items, which were handed out to patients after they underwent free testing.
This initiative was first conceived by Chairman Tela's predecessor, Dr. Alkali Mohammed, who generously donated 12 testing machines to the LGA. Chairman Tela expressed pride in building upon this legacy and looks forward to continuing efforts to combat diabetes.
The ceremony was attended by notable guests, including Bauchi State Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Jiji, who represented the state government, and Hajia Uwa Shehu, chairperson of the Bauchi State Chapter.
Abubakar Musa Suleiman, Chairman of Diabetes Patients in the LGA, and Alh. Idiris Bappa Musa, representing the Misau Emirate Council, also joined the event. The NSCDC, Police, and DSS ensured a peaceful and successful celebration.
Chairman Tela emphasized his commitment to the well-being of the community and gratitude for the support of partners and stakeholders.
"Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes. Let's continue to work towards a healthier, happier Dambam LGA!"
